DUH. SO WHAY'S THE POINT?

What's this rich and talented man afraid of?

He is afraid of one-world government, which will turn once proud America into another France.

He is afraid that Obama "has a deep-seated hatred for white people" — which doesn't mean, he hastens to add, that he actually thinks "Obama doesn't like white people."

He is afraid that both Democrats and Republicans in Washington are deeply corrupt and that their corruption is spreading like a plague.

He used to be afraid that hypocritical Republicans in the Bush Administration were killing capitalism and gutting liberty, but now he is afraid that all-too-sincere leftists in the Obama Administration are plotting the same.

GENERAL BETRAY US, ACTING LIKE NAZIS, SLAUGHTERING WOMEN AND CHILDREN, KILL BUSH. GET THE POINT?

NANCY PELOSI:

“I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw … I saw this myself in the late '70s in San Francisco,” Pelosi said, choking up and with tears forming in her eyes.

“This kind of rhetoric is just, is really frightening and it created a climate in which we, violence took place and … I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made.”

WAIT UP DUDES, LET'S REVIEW THE RECORD.

What Comes Around, Goes…

And then something strange and quite unexpected happened.

The Democrats nominated a charismatic African-American, won the presidency, after obtaining large majorities in Congress, and suddenly became the Establishment, demanding respect for the Commander in Chief in direct proportion to their efforts to deny respect to his predecessor. Then just as suddenly two tropes appeared after January 20th of this year:

One—cannot we all get along? We deplore this resort to barbarism and crudity.

Two—if you dare sound off like we just did, then you are now a racist.

Not So Fast

CHICKENS AND EGGS ALL OVER THE PLACE.

The Left is now furious that, as the new establishment, the rules of discourse are not more polite. But from 2002-8, they (Who are “they”?

Try everyone from Al Gore to John Glen to Robert Byrd to Sen. Durbin), employed every Nazi/brown shirt slur they could conjure up. NPR’s folksy old Garrison Keiler was indistinguishable from mean-spirited Michael Moore in that regard.

The New York Times gave a discount for a disgusting “General Betray Us” ad. The Democratic Party head Howard Dean flatly said he “hated” Republicans.

Hilary Clinton all but called Gen. Petraeus a liar in a congressional hearing.

The New Republic ran an essay on hating George Bush (not opposing, not disliking, but “hating” the President).

Alfred Knopf published a novel about killing Bush. A Guardian op-ed dreamed of Lee Harvey Oswald and John Wilkes Booth coming back to kill Bush. And on and on.

FOR THE NEWS, LOOK TO THE BRITS.

As many as one million people flooded into Washington for a massive rally organised by conservatives claiming that President Obama is driving America towards socialism.

The size of the crowd - by far the biggest protest since the president took office in January - shocked the White House.

A MAGIC MULATTO DOESN'T NEED WINGS TO SOAR, A TELEPROMPTER MAKES A PERFECT SUBSTITUTE.

The President really has to watch this constant return to these soaring cadences that deliver banalities. One cannot sound like Lincoln if there really is no message.

It is time to move on, ignore criticism, and offer something that most can work with; instead, after 9 months we are getting a ‘they are mean to me’ whine at about every speech and photo-op, in the manner of biblical prophets who lash out at doubters.

Obama never gives many concrete details, nor gets precise and concise, and now one wonders whether it is because he simply thinks he can go to the hope and change / soar like an eagle mode, and we will once more get mesmerized, or he has nothing to say at all, or both.

But most caught on to all that, and now want a plan, not A prophet.

WHADDA YA' THINK?

"Our history is decorated by those who endured the burden of defending freedom," Price said. "Now a new generation of patriots has emerged. You are those patriots."

The protesters descended on Washington with a long list of grievances against a government that many complained is racing toward socialism. "Health care is not listed anywhere in the Constitution," said Brian Burnell, 45, who owns an insurance company on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

"How Is That Hopey Changey Thing Workin' Out For Ya?" his placard read.

"You want socialism?" said Susan Clark, a District resident marching with a bullhorn. "Go to Russa!"

Participants in the demonstration spanned the spectrum of conservative anger at Obama, including opponents of his tax, spending and health-care plans and protesters who question Obama's U.S. citizenship and liken his administration to the Nazi regime.

By 11 a.m., the route between Freedom Plaza and the Capitol was a sea of demonstrators chanting "USA!" and carrying signs such as, "Taxed enough already," "The audacity of dope" and, "Czars belong in Russia."

NOW HE HAS DISAPPEARED 17 MILLION UNINSUREDS IN A BLINK OF HIS EYE. NOTHING IS AS POWERFUL AS THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC. 47 MILLION TO 30 MILLION. I WONDER WHO WROTE THEIR INSURANCE POLICIES.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House strengthened its stand against health care coverage for illegal immigrants Friday, and a pivotal Senate committee looked ready to follow its lead.

The developments reflected a renewed focus on the issue in the days since a Republican congressman's outburst during President Barack Obama's health care speech to Congress on Wednesday night. Republican Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina shouted "You lie!" as Obama said illegal immigrants wouldn't be covered under his health plan.

Democrats had pointed to provisions in House and Senate legislation that prohibited illegal immigrants from getting federal subsidies that would be offered to lower-income Americans to help them buy insurance.

That didn't go far enough for Wilson or many other Republicans, who noted the absence of any enforcement mechanism or requirement for verification of legal status. There are some 7 million illegal immigrants in this country who lack health insurance, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

HOWDY STRANGER, NEW IN TOWN?

Consider but a few issues on which Americans have lately been bitterly divided: school prayer, the Ten Commandments, evolution, the death penalty, abortion, homosexuality, assisted suicide, affirmative action, busing, the Confederate battle flag, the Duke rape case, Terri Schiavo, Iraq, amnesty, torture.

Now it is death panels, global warming, "birthers" and socialism. If a married couple disagreed as broadly and deeply as Americans do on such basic issues, they would have divorced and gone their separate ways long ago. What is it that still holds us together?

CHIN DEEP IN UGLY.

From the desk of Congressman Steve King (R-IA):

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Steve King today reacted to a tape released by an independent filmmaker showing Baltimore-based ACORN workers assisting a man and a woman claiming to be involved in a prostitution ring.

According to FOXNEWS, “Officials with the controversial community organizing group ACORN were secretly videotaped offering to assist two individuals posing as a pimp and a prostitute, encouraging them to lie to the Internal Revenue Service and providing guidance on how to claim underage girls from South America as dependents.”

“Taxpayers should be outraged that their money has gone to an organization that, in addition to facing charges of voter fraud and tax violations, is willing to facilitate prostitution,” King said.

“As this video confirms, ACORN continues to operate as a criminal enterprise.

Nancy Pelosi, John Conyers, Barney Frank and other Democrats on Capitol Hill continue to protect and fund ACORN while blocking Congressional hearings on ACORN’s operations and finances.

Shielding ACORN from oversight ensures that this partisan criminal enterprise will continue its shady practices while collecting taxpayer funds.”

FAST IS BETTER THAN RIGHT. RIGHT?

“Distortions!” Candidate Obama screamed, when charged with wanting a Canadian-style health-care system. All he wanted to do, Obama swore, was lower our costs and insure the uninsured.

But then President Obama somehow demanded that a 1,000-page blueprint of a proposed government takeover of the nation’s healthcare be voted on before August recess — as if even one more month of treating patients the way we have for the last 100 years simply would be too much.

VAN JONES IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

For anyone with common sense and a willingness to look at what we were allowed to learn about Obama's background and associations, nothing about Van Jones is the least bit surprising.

Nothing about Obama's penchant for government by radical, unaccountable czars is the least bit surprising.

What is surprising is that smart people continue to treat these developments as if they were abberations that somehow happen independent of Obama, as if the president just needs to do a better job of vetting staffers.

The selection of Van Jones is who Obama is and what he is about. Bad things are not happening to our president; our president is doing bad things — as we should have known he would.

LIFE IN THE BALANCE.

there is no way around ethical determinations of right and wrong. Those two concepts refer to the efficacious practice of human life: they are not interchangeable or arbitrarily disposable, no matter what contemporary sophistries attempt to offer you as rationale.

There can be no demands of action contrary to one's conscience. What I want is that at the end of your deliberations, you should follow me and those who think like me as far as you can in the direction of freedom. Do your best, but get moving right now.

Make no mistake about it: your life hangs in the balance, and principles and integrity matter.

LORDY LORDY, MUCH TO PONDER.

Since we human beings cannot simply pluck food, shelter, clothing and schools off of trees, someone must first create them.

If these things are to be provided as rights to people, then the question becomes: who must pay for them?

In other words, if these goods and services are to be provided as 'rights' to people it is fair to ask: At whose expense?

HE DONE WORKIN' ON DA RAILROAD.

The “Whup Ass”

Van Jones can do his “whup ass” through corporate benefactions, but not on Joe Sixpack’s weekly tax deductions. At least I think that is what the controversy is all about.

Had Jones been white, Asian, or Hispanic, and in his many diatribes just substituted the word “black” when he employed “white”, and replaced “Bush” with “Obama,” then the Left would really have conducted a smear campaign.

But such are the times we live in, that a Jones feels he can abuse the public discourse and insult the intelligence of the public, confident that when called on it, the refuge of “racist”! is always there.

A LIBERAL WITH A CLUE?

If Obama fails to win reelection, let the blame be first laid at the door of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who at a pivotal point threw gasoline on the flames by comparing angry American citizens to Nazis.

It is theoretically possible that Obama could turn the situation around with a strong speech on healthcare to Congress this week, but after a summer of grisly hemorrhaging, too much damage has been done.

At this point, Democrats' main hope for the 2012 presidential election is that Republicans nominate another hopelessly feeble candidate. Given the GOP's facility for shooting itself in the foot, that may well happen.

Universal healthcare is a cause for these people not a need. It's an idealistic goal not a sound one with the country in the face of a financial crisis.

There's no more meat to pluck off the bones of taxpayers to pay for this monstrousity

What's funny is the bluedogs are opposing this not because they're conservatives but rich people in their districts not wanting to pay for it.

Everybody wants free healthcare but nobody wants to pay for it, especially rich liberals.

These people want republicans to pay for everything because afterall they're behind all the problems in this country.

CAN'T WON'T OR BOTH?

Problem is, the lumpen bureaucratariat can't stop spending and borrowing and won't incentivize growth.

Amid the phenomenal spending on the financial mess here, they tried to pass a cap-and-trade bill whose centerpiece was an auction of carbon credits to flow trillions of dollars toward the bureaucracies.

Mr. Obama's people seem weirdly oblivious to the scale of their outlays, programs and dreams.

MAYBE THAT'S WHY THE'RE CALLED PACK RATS.

It's not Obama who didn't vet Jones, but the MSM who have never vetted Obama. Had they vetted Obama, they would have realized that he is Van Jones and that he didn't need to vet Van Jones because he already knew him and considered him a soulmate.

Besides, I thought the MSM complaint on the Jones affair was not that Jones is a radical, but that he got railroaded out by an out-of-control, "unfiltered" alternative media.

Now, which is it, boys? Is Jones an unacceptable radical who was properly exposed by the alternative media doing the job you wouldn't do? Or is he a hapless mainstream guy victimized by a bunch of radical righties?

See what I mean by the MSM's sputtering incoherence?

In the meantime, the American people are better off because at least one of Obama's radicals has been exposed and stopped before he could contribute to the damage Obama is doing to this country.

CRAZY IS AS CRAZY DOES MR. BROKAW.

Do they ask him any penetrating questions today? Have they ever pressed him to explain his voluminous inconsistencies and deceptions on health care alone?

To borrow your terminology, Mr. Brokaw, society – mainstream America, at least – is indeed standing up and saying: "This is crazy.

We just can't function with an extremist president trying to turn America into a socialist and insolvent state and installing a cadre of unconstitutionally appointed, immensely powerful and wholly unaccountable Marxist czars at the highest levels of our government.

And we're sick and tired of the mainstream media's aiding and abetting this reckless destruction."

SARAH BARRACUDA SAYS LET'S GET 'ER DONE THE RIGHT WAY.

Instead of poll-driven "solutions," let's talk about real health-care reform: market-oriented, patient-centered, and result-driven.

As the Cato Institute's Michael Cannon and others have argued, such policies include giving all individuals the same tax benefits received by those who get coverage through their employers; providing Medicare recipients with vouchers that allow them to purchase their own coverage; reforming tort laws to potentially save billions each year in wasteful spending; and changing costly state regulations to allow people to buy insurance across state lines. Rather than another top-down government plan, let's give Americans control over their own health care.

Democrats have never seriously considered such ideas, instead rushing through their own controversial proposals.

After all, they don't need Republicans to sign on: Democrats control the House, the Senate and the presidency.

But if passed, the Democrats' proposals will significantly alter a large sector of our economy. They will not improve our health care. They will not save us money. And, despite what the president says, they will not "provide more stability and security to every American."

We often hear such overblown promises from Washington. With first principles in mind and with the facts in hand, tell them that this time we're not buying it.

Mr. Obama can't succeed on his current course of governing from the left. He is running into political trouble not because his own message is unclear, or because his opposition is better organized. Mr. Obama is falling in the polls because last year he didn't tell the American people that the "change" they were asked to believe in included trillions of dollars in new spending, deferring to the most liberal Members of Congress, a government takeover of health care, and appointees with the views of Van Jones.

HOPE AND CHANGE HAS ARRIVED AND IT'S RATHER UGLY DON'T YOU AGREE?

Van Jones is not the exception, but emblematic of the new frontier.

All the old wisdom, the old reverence are going by the wayside, replaced by a brave new world in which we will be the same in spirit and outlook, committed to replace truth with orthodoxy, roughly equal in ability, neither successful nor failures, neither rich nor poor, nothing “exceptional” at all, mere happy cogs in the brotherly redistributive wheel—mouthing platitudes about diversity and being green, clueless as to their meaning, but clued in to the necessity of chanting such mantras.

And given the President’s rhetoric, and the media as our new ministry of truth— we will be more or less happy idiots, as the old fades and the new absorbs us.

All I can say is non hic porcus, not yet, not by a long shot.

SOMETIMES TRUTH RINGS HOLLOW. IT HAS A KIND OF TINNY SOUND.

Orwellian

In America of 2009 the following are “true”:

The Arabs invented the printing press, and spurred us on to the Enlightenment and Renaissance.

Muslims in Cordoba advised the brutal Christians to show tolerance during the Inquisition.

Slavery ended in America without violence.

The Berlin Airlift was a worldwide effort.

The Americans liberated Auschwitz.

There are 57 states.

FDR was President in 1929 and gave television addresses. We can either drill offshore or inflate our tires properly.

There are no terrorists or a war on same, but only overseas contingency operations and man-made catastrophes.

Those who object to health care are ungodly, and the nation’s children must go to school and see the messiah address them en masse on state-run television screens.

Nazis, brown shirts, a mob, insurance lackeys, Brooks brothers elites, etc. all go to Town Halls.

Doctors chop off limbs and gleefully take out tonsils for profit.

George Bush is our Emmanuel Goldstein whom we must hate collectively each morning for a couple of minutes.

PRE SUNDAY THOUGHT.

"You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

FORWARD MARCH.

Obama is their leader. He is hard-left to the core. If he appears to be backing off from socialized care, it's only for appearance's sake – a temporary retreat in service to an incremental march forward.

Obama announces that he's backing off the public option, it's a signal that he's launched his end run strategy and that it's time to ratchet up our opposition.

If he were the bipartisan exemplar certain naive pseudo-conservatives would have us believe, he would not be attempting to indoctrinate schoolchildren in support of Obamacare, nor would he be appointing one neo-Marxist after another as his czars.

Nor would he have recently told compromise-seeking Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley that he wouldn't renounce the public option, nor Sen. Tom Coburn that he wasn't even willing to compromise 20 percent of his plan to get some Republicans to "come across the line."

WHERE HAS ALL THE MAGIC GONE?

Obama is in trouble.

Let's be clear: This is a fall, not a collapse. He's not been repudiated or even defeated. He will likely regroup and pass some version of health insurance reform that will restore some of his clout and popularity.

But what has occurred -- irreversibly -- is this: He's become ordinary. The spell is broken. The charismatic conjurer of 2008 has shed his magic. He's regressed to the mean, tellingly expressed in poll numbers hovering at 50 percent.

For a man who only recently bred a cult, ordinariness is a great burden, and for his acolytes, a crushing disappointment. Obama has become a politician like others. And like other flailing presidents, he will try to salvage a cherished reform -- and his own standing -- with yet another prime-time speech.

But for the first time since election night in Grant Park, he will appear in the most unfamiliar of guises -- mere mortal, a treacherous transformation to which a man of Obama's supreme self-regard may never adapt.

BEWARE THE CZARS.

Broun also cited the dozens of so-called "czars" Obama has appointed to oversee areas like the troubled car industry as evidence that he is overstepping his bounds to seek power.

"They're developing a shadow government that (does not) answer to the American people," Broun said.

At a town hall meeting in Clarkesville last month, Broun called Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid a "socialistic elite" and agreed with a constituent who said they might use a flu pandemic to declare martial law.

"They're trying to develop an environment where they can take over," Broun said. "We've seen that historically."

DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' ALARM CLOCK DUDE.

Stoners live for the moment. They are all about feelings, not facts. They possess a detached sense of cause and effect.

I recall one specific episode when I came home and tore into my stoner roommate for not having his share of the rent. His solution to his lack of rent was simple. See, the real problem wasn’t his lack of money, but my reaction to it.

I was far too stressed about the situation. What we should do, to solve the rent problem, was grab a couple of drinks at the Cafe Formosa on Santa Monica and then head over to Crazy Girls, a local gentleman’s club. After that excursion, I would calm down and stop harshing his gig over the unpaid rent.

Six Coronas and two lap dances later, I wasn’t as furious. We both felt better. To the stoner, everything was fixed. Problem solved! Unfortunately, the rent was still unpaid. My loser roommate still didn’t have a job.

BULLSEYE.

Carla

I am worried about future elections, should we be lucky enough to have them.

The Republican party is partly at fault for the disaster we have in the White House.

When John McCain was selected as the Republican candidate for the presidency, I knew this country was in deep trouble. I question whether the other Repubs in his party who selected him ever intended for anyone but Obama to win. A lot went on behind closed doors that we may never know about.

McCain and his people stabbed Sarah Palin in the back even though she saved him from a totally humilitating loss. A great many of us wouldn't have voted for him were it not for Sarah.

He suspended his campaign and showed what a total fool he was to help head up the disastrous stimulus and voted for it while Obama stayed conspicuously silent.

Every time a legitimate question arose regarding Obama he always stated that we should just be quiet and leave it alone. Now he makes excuse after excuse for Obama. It infuriates me to see him trot out on the news and speak for the Repubs. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he's not a Democratic thug in reality.

Maybe I'm wrong, but there's just too much about him that stinks. I have never seen a presidential candidate practically stand on his head to give away an election before. He surrendered before the fight even began.

How on earth can normal citizens fight this corruption that is rampant in BOTH parties?

NOT GOING TO RUN OUT, IT HAS RUN OUT.

America is the world's cop, and once we go down, who's going to protect the weak and self-indulgent democracies of this dangerous world?

American democracy is teetering on the edge, and has been ever since the Clintons got elected in 1992. So far we've been lucky -- but not smart. Millions of empty-headed voters fell for the Clintons twice in a row, suckered by the media and a pair of sleazocrats. Last year they did it again.

At some point America's luck is going to run out.

NO SHORTAGE OF BUYERS REMORSE.

Of course, the president, the Democrats, the left, and Congressional leadership could surprise me.

They could show up in September and endorse the Coburn health care bill in the Senate and steal all the credit for it.

They could show up next week and fight with all their might to not allow the tax rates to skyrocket in 2010.

They could decide to scrap cap-and-trade and re-think the use of public money for a true job-based economic stimulus.

But I'm not holding my breath, and I'd advise you against it as well.

They've awakened the American worker, the American small-business owner, and the American voter.

All three of which are now wondering aloud, "What on earth have we done?"

YABUT IT'S FAIR.

And when the U.S., Britain and other members of the G-20 meet later this month, they are being encouraged by "activists" — that is, wealth-hating leftists — to consider an international Tobin Tax on all financial transactions as a kind of social leveling device.

This is the dream of all the global social engineers — a massive tax on wealth that could be used by unaccountable international bureaucrats for their grand schemes to make a better world.

What will come of it is what has come from all international organizations of governance — incompetence, corruption, malfeasance and endless misery for those whom they supposedly want to help.

PROFOUNDLY IMMORAL.

But bending over backward to be nice to our enemies is one of the many self-indulgences of those who engage in moral preening.

But getting other people killed so that you can feel puffed up about yourself is profoundly immoral.

So is betraying the country you took an oath to protect.

SCORE ONE FOR THE TRUTH TELLER.

Those who are pushing for legal action against CIA agents may talk about "upholding the law" but they are doing no such thing. Neither the Constitution of the United States nor the Geneva Convention gives rights to terrorists who operate outside the law.

A LESSON NOT LEARNED.

250 years ago another Scotsman-- Adam Smith-- said, "Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent."

That lesson seems to have been forgotten in America as well, where so many people seem to have been far more concerned about whether we have been nice enough to the mass-murdering terrorists in our custody than those critics have ever been about the innocent people beheaded or blown up by the terrorists themselves.

DON'T SHOOT, WE SURRENDER.

Britain's release of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi-- the Libyan terrorist whose bomb blew up a plane over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, killing 270 people-- is galling enough in itself. But it is even more profoundly troubling as a sign of a larger mood that has been growing in the Western democracies in our time.

In ways large and small, domestically and internationally, the West is surrendering on the installment plan to Islamic extremists.

The late Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn put his finger on the problem when he said: "The timid civilized world has found nothing with which to oppose the onslaught of a sudden revival of barefaced barbarity, other than concessions and smiles."

GOOD CONCLUSION.

Never mind that sunspot activity doubled during the 20th century, when the bulk of global warming has taken place.

What does it say that the modeling that guaranteed disastrous increases in global temperatures never predicted the halt in planetary warming since the late 1990s?

(MIT’s Richard Lindzen says that “there has been no warming since 1997 and no statistically significant warming since 1995.”)

What does it say that the modelers have only just now discovered how sunspots make the Earth warmer?

I don’t know what it tells you, but it tells me that maybe we should study a bit more before we spend billions to “solve” a problem we don’t understand so well.

SKULLS FULL OF MUSH NOT A GOOD SUBSTITUTE FOR BRAINS.

Like a complex crystal, each time I turn the academic page, I get a new view of the misunderstanding and a new insight into what is wrong with America.

These things aren't unique to this semester's bunch. The concepts they harbor were in the previous classes, but the one that jumps out at me this early in the semester is the issue of government spending.

They don't appreciate the incontrovertible fact that government at any level has no money of its own. They somehow think that there is a treasury filled with gold doubloons that a benevolent government strews out to the hungry populace.

Or, conversely for the more modern viewpoint, the government owns a printing press.
